The Mayor of Bangem Council, Ekungwe Kang Christopher, has honoured his late mother, Mama Munge Cecilia Ekungwe, by bringing joy to patients at the Bangem District Hospital.

The one year memorial service of Mama Ekungwe took place on June 22, 2025 in Nyan village, Bangem Sub Division, same day she was buried one year ago.
Prior to the memorial service, the Mayor, accompanied by family members, and the Sub Delegate of Women’s Empowerment and the Family, Bangem, Epumangando Synthia Epede Bih, carried gifts to patients at the hospital.

The first meeting was with nursing mothers, and pregnant women at the hospital. The Mayor doled out envelopes with cash to the nursing mothers to support their hospital bills.

He equally gave them bags containing diapers, tablets of soap, powder soap, toilet tissue, vegetable oil, amongst others.
Ekungwe encouraged them to take care of themselves and the babies, assuring them more support whenever the means are available.

From the nursing mothers, the Mayor visited patients in the children, male, and female wards of the hospital. After donating their bags of items, he handed them money in envelops and prayed for their speedy recovery.

Mayor Ekungwe also donated a package of toiletries to the hospital management and staff.

The Bangem municipal boss told The Ultimate that he decided to visit the patients with the little available means, to speed up their recovery process.
He promised to carry on greater projects at the hospital once the financial means of the council is better.

While receiving the Mayor and entourage, the Director of Bangem District Hospital, Dr. Esambe Emmanuel, thanked the Mayor for the philanthropic gesture to patients, and nursing mothers.

He said this will facilitate their healings. He added that some patients have been abandoned by their families, and the mayor’s assistance will help in such cases.
The doctor pleaded with the mayor to assist the hospital with electricity. “Our ENEO meter got burnt over a year now because of short circuiting. We have struggled to replace it but some of the wards are yet to have electricity. Just imagine patients in such wards.” He lamented.

Dr. Esambe pleaded with elite at home and abroad to assist the hospital for proper installation of electricity throughout the hospital.
In her words of appreciation, Ngwa Mirabel, a mother of twin thanked the mayor for filling them with laughter at the hospital. She promised to use the items to effectively take care of Emmanuel and Emmanuela, her twin babies.

Mariama Bouba, another nursing mother from Muanenguba appreciated Mayor Ekungwe for the financial support. She prayed God’s continuous supply and blessings on the mayor so that he will continue to reach out to the less privileged in society.
Mama Senze Magdalene, a patient was grateful with the mayor’s gesture. She said the toiletries will help her greatly in the hospital.
