The Mayor of Bangem Council, Ekungwe Kang Christopher in collaboration with the Divisional Delegation of Housing and Urban Development, MINHDU, Kupe Muanenguba, have set up a recycling center in Bangem.
The recycling center was announced by the Divisional Delegate, MINHDU, K/M, Orock Takang Ewube on March 20, 2025 during the official launching of the 2025 Clean Cities Contest in Kupe Muanenguba.

Addressing stakeholders at the launching ceremony, Ewube said Clean Cities Contest is an initiative aimed at promoting sustainable urban development and proper waste disposal.
He said there will be waste recycling at the center, which involves the collecting and processing of waste materials to produce finished products.

The delegate disclosed that since he took over office in 2022, through his initiative, Bangem came second at the Regional Clean Cities Contest for the South West Region.
He said in 2023, Tombel Council also took second at the regional level, while in 2024, Tombel again came first at the Regional level and represented the South West Region at the national level.
Ewube explained that at the national level, Tombel Council took the 10th position out of the 360 councils in Cameroon, bringing Kupe Muanenguba at the limelight.

According to the delegate, Kupe Muanenguba must be at the top again in the 2025 contest as preparations have started ahead of the regional competition, which will run for six weeks before the final competition at the national level.
“I am assuring you all. I have confidence that we are not going there to compete with our opponents. We are going there to grab the trophy and represent South West at the national level in Bamenda.” He boasted.
The delegate added that Clean Cities Contest has to do with hygiene and sanitation, waste recycling and organic farming. He congratulated the population of the division for always maintaining good hygiene and sanitation.
Ewube cautioned that they are not engaging in the competition because of money but as a lifestyle. “We are grabbing the regional trophy again. It is either Bangem, Nguti or Tombel.” He disclosed.
From the launching ceremony, the delegate and stakeholders marched round the town of Bangem to raise awareness on the dangers of plastic pollution and waste disposal.
The delegation further visited the site reserved by the council for proper waste disposal and recycling.
Also present at the launching ceremony was the First Assistant Senior Divisional Officer of Kupe Muanenguba, Djaonè Mouigoum, the Divisional Officer of Bangem Sub Division, Dairou Saly, Bangem municipal authorities, divisional delegates, civil society representatives, amongst others.
