The Senor Divisional Officer of Kupe Muanenguba, Mungambo Ekema William has inaugurated the Summa Cum Laude (Sango Madiba) Information and Learning Resource Centre, in Ekol-Muebah, Nninong, Bangem Sub Division.
The ground breaking inauguration ceremony took place on December 21, 2024 at Muebah-Nninong.
In his inaugural speech, Mungambo commended the elite for contributing to the socio economic growth of the nation through the establishment of the Centre.
He described the Resource Centre as a solution to societal problems where innovations are nurtured.
He said the Centre will help students, researchers and communities in the advancement of knowledge.
As representative of the state, the SDO pledged support and collaboration for the sustainability of the Centre. “Together as a united people, we can overcome challenges and build a brighter future”. He revealed.
The Chairperson of Steering Committee for the inauguration of the Centre, Col (ret) Sone Ajang Joseph described the Centre as a hybrid library with a mix of traditional print library resource and growing number of electronic resources.
He said the multimedia resource and information technology centre will promote students’ success, adult apprenticeship and research by providing services for critical thinking, problem solving and analytical skills.
Col Sone said the Centre is like a giant ray of sunshine for their community, whose radiance radiates beyond Nninong, and has the vocation of illuminating the region, the country and the world which is now a global village.
The Genesis
In his presentation of the Summa Cum Laude (Sango Madiba) Information and Learning Resource Centre, the Community Volunteer-in-Chief, Dr. Ephraim Abwe Diabe said the initiative was birthed by the Ndameton family (one of the three families that constitute Muebah-Nninong) on the heels of the burial of his uncle, Henry Metuge Diabe in 2022.
He lauded the Vice Chancellor of the University of Buea, Professor Horace Ngomo and his colleagues including Professor Sone Ekonde Michael for guidance.
According to Dr. Abwe, the Centre is all-encompassing, equipped with a private reading corner, the Children’s Learning and Play Corner, a Multimedia Corner branded the “American Corner” in recognition of the support from BACDA USA and Nninong Women and Development Association, NIWODDA Washington DC.
He said the Annual Strategic Plan for 2025 earmarks capacity enhancement in project management and resource mobilization for schools and local administration in Kupe Muanenguba Division.
The presentation was proceeded by a book launch, “Summa Cum Laude: The Long-Walk to Sango Madiba Information and Learning Resource Centre in Ekol-Muebah-Nninong”, authored by Dr. Ephraim Abwe Diabe and forwarded by Barrister Clement Ndode Ngube.
HRM Mbong Jerry, Chief of Kupe Tombel awarded prizes to meritorious kids of Muebah-Nninong and volunteers of the Centre.
The event also witnessed an ecumenical service headed by Rev. Dr. Mokoko Thomas Mbue Presbyterial Secretary, West Region and Parish Pastor, PC Bafoussam, Rev. Fang Terence Njuh, Parish Pastor, PC Muaku and Rev. Tangyie Ndoh Neville, Parish Pastor, PC Muebah-Nninong.
Also present was the Divisional Officer of Bangem Sub Division, Dairou Saly, HRM Chief Nhon Emmanuel Ekwelle-Kume Makoge, Kiong-Mbah of Nninong, amongst others.
