An unprecedented crowd of internal and external elite of Kupe Muanenguba and beyond, friends and well-wishers have bid farewell to their patriarch, Sango Andreas Ewang Mukete alias Soh Ewankume.
Late Sango Ewang who was born in 1919, died in November 2024 at a full age of 105 years.
The corpse arrived Bangem on December 13 from the Kumba District Hospital Mortuary and was conveyed to his Street One Ekaku residence for viewing. There was cultural dances and animation till dawn.
At the funeral mass at the Ave Maria Parish Bangem, December 14, 2024, Father Vindicatus Fon, assisted by Father Ejeh Joel preached on “The Purpose and Meaning of Life”.
He said the dates of birth and death of every human being are two most important events of life.
According to Father Fon, some people were born to rich families while others to poor families, but they can always reverse this trend in the course of their lives.
“What will people remember you for when you die”? He questioned.
Father Fon encouraged all to live according to the standard of God and avoid evil practices to gain everlasting life after they depart from the world.
While comforting the bereaved family, Father Ejeh said Late Sango Ewang’s life on earth is worth celebrating. He prayed for unity and love amongst the family members.
In his words of appreciation, Ewang Ephraim, son of the deceased thanked all those who have supported them in their moment of grief and great lost. He prayed God to bless them and conveyed them safely to their various destinations.
Late Sango Ewang was buried on December 14 at the family residence in Ekaku Bangem. The family offered a thanksgiving mass at the Ave Maria Parish Bangem on December 15.
Funeral celebration ended on December 17 with cry die, which involved traditional rites, cultural display, traditional dances and animation.
Biography
Late Sango Andreas Ewang Mukete alias Soh Ewankume was born around 1919 to Late Papa Mukete Ekwehlonsume of Ekejuh family at Ekaku, Bangem town and Late Mama Emade of Ekambeng village.
He was the only surviving child to his mother who unfortunately passed away at his infancy, making his childhood life very difficult and sorrowful.
Soh Ewankume was a hunter, a trader and a farmer. He was a very strong custodian of cultural values and was very active in his social life. For a very long time, he was the goal keeper of the adult team in Bangem.
He was a founding member and treasurer of “Njangi-soh” Group and Development Association, Bangem.
He was a baptized Christian of the Roman Catholic Church and remained faithful to the end. He brought up his children in the fear of God.
Late Sango Ewang was married to three wives who all passed away leaving him a widower. He had 14 children, 10 of whom are still alive, 39 grandchildren, 19 great grand-children and three great great grand-children.
His ten living children are; Ewang Ephraim, Ewang Jay Akame, Ewang Loveline epse Ngwane, Ewang Derick, Ewang Paulina Emade, Ewang Josephine Dielle, Ewang Hugo Hene, Ewang Alice Mbange, Ewang Delphine Ebote and Ewang Ekeh.
