Reach Out, with funds from United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA, has trained thirty women in Nkikoh, Bangem Sub Division, Kupe Muanenguba, on Gender Based Violence, GBV Free Communities and income generating skills.
The empowerment workshop which took place recently at PCC Nkikoh, began with an educative talk on GBV, the consequences of GBV and the importance of accessing different services.
Sensitization on Gender Based ViolenceAccording to Esther Omam, Chief Executive Officer of Reach Out, the objective of the workshop was to sensitize women in Nkikoh on Gender Based Violence and to increase their knowledge on GBV and its consequences.
She said by empowering women with skills on industrial soap and fish pie, it is their own way of making the Nkikoh woman to use local resources and materials to boost their local economy to alleviate poverty.
Omam stated that at the end of the training, the women are expected to create their own businesses and generate income to improve their standard of living.
“This training will not only empower Nkikoh women economically, it will also contribute to community development and social change for GBV free communities”. The CEO added.
Speaking to The Ultimate, one of the trainers, Mwene Agnes Senge épse Enongene lauded Reach Out for the impactful workshop to transform the lives of Nkikoh women.
Senge who is also Director of Women Empowerment and Family Center, Bangem trained the women on the production of fish pie.
She advised the women to put their skills to practice by producing fish pie for home and commercial purpose.
Also present at the training was the Sub Delegate of Women Empowerment and the Family, Bangem, Epumangando Cynthia Epede Bih.
