Muangwekan Football and Cultural Inter-quarters Competitions have rallied the population of the village and nearby communities that took part in the competition for peace, love and unity.
The two months competition was played by Muangwekan I, Muangwekan II, Nyan, Muakwe, Muanyet, and Muanjikon villages of the Elung Clan, Bangem Sub Division, Kupe Muanenguba Division.
The finals of the tournament took place on August 24, 2024 between Muangwekan I and Muangwekan II. Muangwekan II won with three goals to zero against Muangwekan I, bagging home FCFA 170.000 for the first prize out of FCFA 500.000 for the football competition. Muangwekan I took the FCFA 100.000 for the second prize and the third prize, FCFA 50.000.
Also, the traditional dancing competition to revive the culture of the Elung Clan, had Muangwekan I, Muangwekan II, Nyan, Muakwe, Muanyet, and Muanjukon villages as participating teams.
FCFA 170.000, FCFA 100.000 and FCFA 50.000 was allocated as first, second and third prizes respectively to the winners of the ngone and ewang traditional dances performed in Muangwekan.
The president of the Local Organizing Committee of the competitions, Ndionge Jean Claude Etoke also thanked the players for their maturity and for respecting the rules of the game throughout the competitions. He hoped the spirit of love peace and harmony will continue in Elung Clan.
Speaking to The Ultimate, the Chief of Muangwekan Village, HRM Chief Atabe Emmanuel appreciated all the participating teams for maturity and fair play exhibited throughout the competition. He said this is a show of the spirit of unity and peace that reign in Elung Clan.
He thanked the population of the participating villages for their show of sportsmanship during the tournament.
The Chief also lauded Atabe Nzalle Ivo in USA and Enongene Joseph Asue in Canada, elite of Muankwekan for donating the trophy of FCFA one million for the football and cultural dance competitions.
“These competitions are also to celebrate a one and indivisible Muangwekan. To reinforce the fact that the village is under Bangem Sub Division and not Melong Sub Division. Witches and wizards have been trying so hard to see that Melong takes this village but I assure you they won’t succeed”. He added.
Chief Atabe also appreciated the Southwest Regional Assembly for providing two classrooms to GSS Muangwekan and the Mayor of Bangem Council, Ekungwe Kang Christopher for building more classrooms in the primary section.
Also, Ekanjume Peter Sume, Sub Section President of CPDM Elung Four, Muangwekan, congratulated all the teams and cup donors for making Muangwekan lively and united through football and culture. He added that the village is not under Melong but rather, under Bangem Sub Division.
Ndumbe Roland Sumelong and Mbong Denis, elite of Muangwenkan described their village as blessed with touristic and natural resources. While encouraging the players, they hoped that next year’s trophy for both competitions will increase from FCFA one million to a higher amount.
