Santos FC, the pride of Mbat, emerged victorious in the Ekah Sustainable Football for Peace and Harmony tournament, Bangem 2024.
The Mbat boys showcased their skill and determination as they defeated Mboku FC with a commanding score of three goals to one at the prestigious Paul Biya Stadium on August 24, 2024.
The excitement of the event was palpable even before the match began, with a lively caravan led by the energetic vam vam group parading through the streets of Bangem, filling the air with the sound of their vuvuzelas.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, the Muanenguba youths participated in a spirited horse parade alongside the cup donor and administrative officials. This pulled a mammoth crowd to the stadium for the encounter between Santos FC and Mboku FC.
In the first half of the encounter, Santos FC opened score at about the 20th minutes of play. But was followed by an equalizer from Mboku FC, bringing the scoreboard to one goal each for both teams at the end of the first half.
When the second half resumed, Santos FC scored the second goal at about 25 minutes of play. While Mboku FC mounted pressure against their opponent, squandering several opportunities, Santos again scored a third goal.
At the end of the 90th minutes, it was three goals for Santos FC and one goal for Mboku FC.
In the prize award session, Santos FC won the first prize of FCFA 700.000, while Mboku FC, with the second position, backed home FCFA 400.000.
Friends of Friends FC grabbed FCFA 200.000 for the third position, while Chambers FC benefited FCFA 100.000 for the fourth position.
Also, a consolation prize of FCFA 50.000 was handed to the rest of the six teams ( Royal FC, Mbuh FC, Apple Boys FC, Inter Maimi FC, Muakwe FC and Qatar FC) as participation bonus.
For individual prizes, Mbong Lesley was rewarded as the best player of the tournament. Sube Kingsley, best goal keeper, Ngalame, best coach, Akuta Cyril, highest goal scorer.
The prize of man of the match went to Ngole Sone and the best match official, Sumelong Ekane.
Royal FC won the prize of the most disciplined team, followed by Qatar FC. Royal FC again won the prize of the best fan club.
Speaking to the press at the end of the match, the cup donor, Ekah Banjamin alias Grand Benji congratulated Santos FC for their victory.
He said they have not only secured the trophy but also highlighted the spirit of unity and sportsmanship that the Ekah Sustainable Football tournament aims to promote.
Ekah congratulated all the participating teams, match officials, the local organizing committee and all those who contributed for the success of the tournament.
Present at the stadium was the Senior Divisional Officer of Kupe Muanenguba, Mungambo Ekema William, the Divisional Officer of Bangem Sub Division, Dairou Saly, the Mayor of Bangem Council, Ekungwe Kang Christopher, the Paramount Ruler of Bangem, HRM Chief Nnane Emmanuel, administrative, judicial and traditional authorities amongst others.
