Holiday soccer for youths in Mungo Ndor village, Nguti Sub Division, Kupe Muanenguba Division, South West Region, to boost voters’ registration has been launched.
The launching ceremony took place on July 6, 2024 at Mungo Ndor village.
Addressing youths and the entire population that turned out massively at the soccer jamboree, the President of Mungo Ndor Development Association, Etuba Kelvin Ewenzo disclosed that the objective of the holiday soccer is to revive football in the village.
“The football competition is intended to allow the youth in the village exercise themselves during this holiday. It is also intended to encourage youths for abandoning the fruitless calls to join the separatist ideologies, and follow the path of peace offer by the president Paul Biya”. He added.
Voters Registration
Etuba said they plan to use the competition to get all the villagers inscribe their names on the electoral register so that they express their civic rights in upcoming elections.
“We intend to take the voters’ registration exercise to other villages in the hinterland so as to give a resounding victory to the ruling CPDM party in forth coming elections”. He disclosed.
The President called on the population of the village to send their children to school next academic year without delay because education remains the best gift, they can offer their children.
He said government has constructed beautiful classrooms, employed qualified teachers for the benefit of the population. “So, I urge all parents to take advantage of this and send your children to school”. Etuba added.
While calling on the population to shun messages of distraction, he cautioned them on the importance of peace which they must all inhabit. The president promised to carry the peace message to other villages in the hinterland of Nguti Sub Division for more people to get their names on the electoral register.
President Etuba acknowledged the support of the Director General of the Hydrocarbons Prices Stabilization Fund, CSPH, Okie Johnson Ndoh, and other elite for the realization of the project.
Speaking to The Ultimate, the traditional ruler of Mungo Ndor, HRM Chief Bang Joseph Ewunsoh lauded the President for the peace initiative launched in the village through soccer.
Chief Bang who is also North West Regional Delegate of Public Contracts, MINMAP, called for fair play amongst the teams and encouraged the youths to shun all forms of brutality on the pitch.
Road Network
Eyambe Enoh Pesso, the Regent Chief of the village, said Mungo Ndor is densely populated with over 1,500 inhabitants. He said their major problem is roads.
He pleaded with the government to look into the road network leading to the village from Kokobuma through Badun, New Konye, Epen which he said, is practically impassable in the heart of the rainy season.
At the end of the event, close to 300 potential voters were registered on the electoral register.
