Hundreds of mourners have accompanied the Mayor of Bangem Council, Ekungwe Kang Christopher to bury her 89 year old mother, Mama Munge Cecilia Ekungwe in Nyan village, Bangem Sub Division, Kupe Muanenguba Division.
The funeral ceremony took place on June 22, 2024 at the Mayor’s residence in Nyan.
In his homily at the funeral service from Ecclesiastic 3: 9 -11, Rev. Fr. Joseph Ekiti Nokwe, Parish Priest of Ikassa Parish, Kumba Diocess described Late Mama Munge as a gentle, humble and kind mother.
He told mourners to emulate such character, serve God with all their hearts and to make heaven at last.
Father Ekiti further described the tussle for world riches as vanity, enjoining Christians to be righteous at all times because there’s no repentance in the grave. “As we have come to bid our mother goodbye, let us think of heaven in all we do”. He added.
Rev. Father Ekiti was accompanied by Rev. Fr. Charles Bate Bechem, Parish Priest of Ave Maria Parish, Bangem.
Eulogy
In his eulogy, Mayor Ekungwe lamented that his mother’s departure has created a big vacuum in him because he will never talk or touch her again. He described her mother as a strong woman who single-handed raised him after his father died on the day he wrote the Government Common Entrance.
“My mother suffered to make me who I am today. She always told me to be humble and have an open heart towards everybody. She told me never to be angry and to always smile with people. She encouraged me to share with others. I am a baby to my mother from when she delivered me. I greatly miss you Mama. I will never see you again”. The Mayor wailed.
