The TERFEL-ASBEC Foundation for Gender Development and Peace, TAFGEDEP in collaboration with CPDM Kupe Muanenguba III Section, has trained youths in Tombel, Kupe Muanenguba Division, South West Region on Artificial Intelligence and Sustainable Peace.
The one day workshop chaired by the Divisional Officer of Tombel Sub Division, Nyam Leonard Njowon, took place on February 28, 2024 in Tombel under the theme, “Artificial Intelligence (AI), an Instrument of Empowerment for the Autonomy of Youths.”
In her opening address, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of TAFGEDEP, Dr. Ngome nee Felicia Munge Etape saluted the courage of youths in the sub division towards the maintenance of peace. She said this priceless peace should be jealously guarded because it is the springboard to all forms of development.
The CEO said the objective of the workshop is to imbibe youths of Tombel with digital skills to enable them effectively study and carry out businesses in the world that has become a global village.
She pointed that the workshop is a continuation of the first edition that took place in 2023 where youths were trained on ICT and communication skills like communicating online, content and graphics creation with canvas, using Facebook and WhatsApp for Business, leveraging Tiktok, and opportunities available for the digital hard skills.
“With digital skills, youths can be self-employed, study effectively with digital tools, build online partnerships for sponsors, sell farm produce online and much more. I am happy with the turn out of the youths at the workshops,” She added.
Dr. Ngome thanked the Section President of CPDM Kupe Muanenguba III, Mbulle Mbulle Valentine for always supporting their youth empowerment activities.
Meanwhile the Divisional Officer of Tombel Sub Division lauded Dr. Ngome and her TAFGEDEP team for giving back to the community by empowering youths. Nyam cautioned the youths to be serious at the workshop and to make good use of skills gained at the workshop.
The DO pleaded with other organizations to emulate the example of TAFGEDEP by empowering the population in various domains.
Some of the modules handled in the workshop by the trainer, Ytembe Therese include; creative writing with AI, image creation with AI, photo editing with AI, painting with AI and video editing with AI.
At the end of the workshop, Ebong Thierry Enongene, one of the trainees thanked Dr. Ngome for her passion towards youth empowerment in the sub division. He promised to use the knowledge gained to boost his business.
Also, Lombe Olive testified that she has never heard of Artificial Intelligence. She promised to monetize skills acquired at the workshop like, the production of flyers, posters and banners. Lombe equally promised to teach other youths in her neighbourhood who could not make it at the training.
From the workshop, Dr. Ngome and her TAFGEDEP team moved to the GPS field Tombel to encourage women in their football games which she sponsored, as part of preparations ahead of the 39th edition of the International Women’s Day celebration in Tombel.
