Elung Women and Daughters Cultural and Development Association, EWODCUDA, has raised funds to complete the ongoing construction of furnished apartments in Bangem.
The fund raising gala was part of activities of EWODCUDA General Assembly which took place in Limbe recently.
As women from the nine branches entered Limbe, the host branch entreated them to a refreshing session at the beach. The beach meeting was characterized with jubilation, excitement, swimming, dancing and merry making.
From the beach, the women assembled at the Limbe Council Hall for competition in choral singing, dancing and ballet.
Day two of the General Assembly started with a march past at the Limbe Community Field to the esplanade of the Limbe Regional Hospital. At the end of the march past, the women sang and danced in akose (Bakossi dialect), raising awareness on EWODCUDA’s presence in Limbe.
At the General Assembly that ensued, the women discussed strategies to get more women and daughters of Elung Clan into EWODCUDA. The women also reviewed the finances of the national bureau and the various branches, and resolved to get more money into their coffers for their chapters to be vibrant.
Also, the women reviewed the stage of their current project which was at the level of raising the walls. They decided to rekindle their efforts financially and materially for the completion of the project. The women also resolved that their annual general assembly shall be organized yearly till the completion of the project.
Addressing the mammoth crowd at the fund raising gala, the national president of EWODCUDA, Eyong Ebote Nicholine welcomed the women and guests. She said their objective of building furnished apartments in Bangem is to solve the problem of accommodation in the divisional headquarter of Kupe Muanenguba and to give back to their community. She disclosed that the construction phase of the project has offered employment to the youths.
Ebote said at the end of the project, more youths shall be employed in the various departments thereby advancing development of Bangem Sub Division in particular and Kupe Muanenguba in general. While appreciating the donors for their constant support, the president appealed to women and daughters of Elung Clan to join EWODCUDA so that they can collectively advance the development of their sub division.
The first vice president of EWODCUDA, Mbobe Nkwelle Grace said she was elated with the turn out from the various branches and guests at the gala. “We give thanks to God for a successful general assembly. We also thank all our donors for supporting the completion of this our giant project.” Nkwelle disclosed.
In the fund raising session, Etake Pamela together with her husband, Etake Divine who was unavoidably absent, opened the fruit tree fund raiser with the sum of FCFA 1.000.000 (one million). Other personalities and the various branches followed with their support. At the end, the women raised over FCFA 6 million.
The gala night was characterized by animation from popular Bakossi musician, Elone Elone, choral singing and traditional dances.
It should be noted that EWODCUDA is made up of women from the 13 villages of the Elung Clan, Bangem Sub Division which include; Nkikoh, Muanyet, Muajikon, Muangwekan, Nyan, Mbat, Muasum, Poala, Ekambeng, Muabi, Ekangte, Muelong and Ekanjo Elung.
EWODCUDA has nine branches which include; Bangem, Nkongsamba, Loum, Kumba, Buea, Limbe, Douala, Yaounde and USA.
Over the years, the association has empowered Elung girls and women on education and health care needs. In 2012, they provided medical supply and equipment to Mbat and Nkikoh Health Centers. In 2016, EWODCUDA carried out a health campaign at Muabi with free screening and medication.
Also, in 2018, EWODCUDA provided scholarships and support to deserving students of the Elung Clan.
