How long have you been a Director at Bangem District Hospital?
As a medical Doctor I have been working at the Bangem District Hospital for a period of 3 three years eight months.
What does your activities as a doctor entails
It is my responsibility as a medical doctor to consult patients, treat them. Add as a director I manage the personnel, infrastructure and also ensure the smooth functioning of activities of the hospital.
What is the staff strength of Bangem District Hospital?
In every organization human resource is usually a key as far as achieving goals are concerned. In our case we have a very challenging situation where we have just nine (9) state agents which include the director, service manager, general supervisor, two laboratory technicians, and few nurses. But we have tried remedying the situation through help from the council and local agents making a total of thirty five (35).
How has Elites’ support at home and abroad help to advance the hospital?
On a serious note when I came to Bangem the state of the hospital was really down in many aspects but we have been able to cope and improve the situation thanks to the collaboration of many individuals (Elites) of the subdivision through their donations. For instance before I came most patients being referred to Nkongsamba for one checkup or the other but this has massively reduce thanks to some of the donations we received. But it should be noted that we still need an ambulance, an X- Ray machine and other laboratory equipment.
What are your challenges?
Like I earlier disclose we have some challenges such as limited personnel for instance a hospital like this one should not have just a single medical doctor, we really need a specialize nurse, a dentist and other specialists. Infrastructure too is another challenge. Here we are in need of a theatre and a maternity.
What advice for the youths against drugs
Drugs are among the most serious health enemies we can find in our world today. The tendency is that the more youths engaged in drugs the more their life spans are reduced. This is proven by the rate at which drugs destroys the immune system. So I am calling on all the youths to stay away from drugs, be focus, patient, knowing that there is no short cut to success, respect your elders and always listen and take to advice.
A word for Bangem subdivision
I will love to use this opportunity to call on the population of Bangem Sub Division to trust in the services of their own district hospital knowing that it is only when you go to other places and see how sluggish services that you can compare the two. I will not blow my trumpet to say that we have arrived but that we are trying our best to serve our population as per the norms despite the fact that we are few. Even at midnight, we do not hesitate to rush to the hospital for my staff and I have them at heart and we are ready to serve whenever there is an emergency.
Any last words?
At this level there is still much to achieve and so I will keep working on myself just to make sure I become the best of me. My desire is to go back to school and become a specialist in Gynecology.
Can we know more about Dr Esambe?
I am a specialized nurse in anesthesiology, ophthalmology, dentistry and physiotherapy.
I am a young dynamic person who is interested in seeing things work especially in a community like ours where many are always waiting on others to do something. I grew up in a peasant home where my parents trained me to become a responsible citizen. We didn’t have much but we had enough to sustain our lives. At an early age I started doing trading (hocking) moving from one village to another to sell before going to school. I think the training my Mum and Dad gave me at tender age is really helping me today. I am a medical doctor who is passionate about business and agriculture. You know as a medical doctor in Cameroon you can’t depend only on your salary so I create other avenues to make earns means. These two reasons really motivate into engaging in other activities.
Also, I am a Christian, a believer and follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. I am also a minister of the word of God, a husband and a father of two boys and counting.
