The Senior Divisional Officer, SDO of Kupe Muanenguba, Mungambo Ekema William has ordered the Divisional Delegate of Housing and Urban Development, MINHDU, Takang Orock Ewube to dismantle pigs pens within Bangem town.
Mungambo was speaking recently at the conference hall of the divisional office Bangem, during the follow up meeting of the execution of Public Investment Projects for Kupe Muanenguba.
The SDO regretted that during the last Bangem Council Session, councilors adopted a resolution to dismantle pigsties within the town.
He said such pig pens do not only render the town dirty, but the stench smell from the pens is unhealthy to the population.
Mungambo was particular on a pigsty located behind Paul Biya Stadium Bangem. He lamented that when authorities are speaking at the grandstand, pigs are replying at the background. He said stench from pigsties cannot allow people to drink freely from snacks within the town.
“I know the mayor is facing difficulties to execute this because owners of pig pens are his electorates. He is afraid to take action because the people won’t give their votes to him if he orders the destruction of pig pens in Bangem. The population will consider it as bad treatment and refuse to give him their votes.” He disclosed.
The SDO told participants that he is not against people rearing pigs, but that, pig pens should be located at the outskirt of the town or constructed in a modern way that the stench does not affect the population.
The MINHDU delegate in return, promised to execute as instructed by the SDO.
