The Sub Delegate of Social Affairs, MINAS Nguti, Maleka Reuben Motoko, has appealed to government to reinstate the Police Identification Post of Nguti.
Speaking to The Ultimate on October 14, 2023 in Nguti, Maleka stated that since the identification post was burnt in 2017 as a result of the socio political crisis in the nation, persons with disabilities suffer to produce National Identity Card.
He said IDPs and disabled persons in need of ID cards are either referred to Mamfe in Manyu Division, or Kumba in Meme Division, where they spend between FCFA 25.000 and FCFA 30.000 because of transport and other costs.
Maleka was also worried that since the circuit court from Bangem stopped coming to Nguti for the last eight years, Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, orphans and vulnerable persons face difficulties to establish birth certificates.
He regretted that considering transportation cost, these persons spend close to FCFA 35.000 at Kumba or Mamfe for birth certificates.
The sub delegate said because of these challenges, most persons with disabilities and vulnerable persons can’t afford this amount, and are left without ID cards and birth certificates.
Unfortunately, he lamented that, ID cards are prerequisite for the establishment of a National Disability Card.
He said the absence of these essential documents affects their data on prioritizing the needy, especially without the National Disability Card.
Maleka pleaded for the Police Identification Post to go functional again and for the courts in Bangem to consider coming to Nguti again so that people can easily obtain birth certificates at minimal costs.
The sub delegate further explained that considering the vast nature of the sub division, he has established focal group community leaders in the various clans. He said the leaders help them with information on needy persons in their areas which helps him in coordination.
He pleaded with elites and stakeholders of Nguti to support the sub delegation, which is yet to have a good structure, so that they can effectively carry out their functions.
