Government Teachers Training College, GTTC Bangem, Kupe Muanenguba Division is 25 years old. The institution has produced thousands of teachers into the job market.
Most of the teachers have been redeployed to teach in schools in the division. Others have been self-employed with knowledge and skills gained from the school.
According to the principal, Ajime Christopher Apash they are mobilizing former students of the school to form a powerful alumni in order to ploy back into the institution.
He said the school prides itself as a home of knowledge, love and unity.
Appointed in November 2022, Principal Apash who has been a teacher in the school from 2000 to 2007, and Vice Principal from 2009 to 2013 said his vision is to increase school enrolment from next academic year and to boost professionalism in the institution.
“We plan to raise teachers that will creat impact in their various communities.” He added.
Apash added that they are mobilizing to creat an impact on this year’s youth day activities. He said his students are involved in extracurricular activities in order to showcase outstanding performances during the youth day.
The principal pleaded with his staff to be regular in school, punctual and assiduous. He also encouraged his students to be creative and hardworking.
He lauded the Education for Sustainable Development, ESD, a programme under World Wide Fund for Nature, WWF for transforming GTTC Bangem campus with beautiful flowers, a talking corner, a herbal farm, school garden and a walkway to the Muanenguba Twin Lakes represented on the campus.
However, Apash lamented that the staff strength of the school is lacking as they have departments without specialized teachers like French, Information and Communication Technology, ICT, Home Economics Center amongst others.
The principal said they are struggling with just five streams of classrooms, where as they need six streams for students offering three years programme, two years, and one year. He said they have a makeshift hall which they have transformed to a classroom.
He appealed to the government, elites, Bangem Council and other people of good will to rescue them from these challenges so that they can creat greater impact to accelerate the development of communities.
