The Sub Treasurer of Tombel, Kupe Muanenguba Division, South West Region, Akale Akule Ransom Sone, has defended his Ph.D. in Banking and Finance from the University of Buea titled, “The Impact of Financial Integration and Financial Technology on the Performance of Commercial Banks in the CEMAC Zone”.

The Ph.D. defense took place on September 27, 2025 at the Board Room of the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences, University of Buea, UB.
The six-man jury comprised of Professor Molem Sama from UB (Chairperson), Associate Professor Jumbo Eleazar Urie from the University of Bamenda, Uba, (External Reviewer), Visemih William Muffee from UB (Internal Reviewer), Professor Messomo Elle Serge from UB (Supervisor), Professor Dobdinga Cletus from Uba (Co-supervisor), and Associate Professor Nwahanye Emmanuel from UB (Member).
After an award of excellence from the jury, Dr. Akale appreciated God for carrying him through the ladder of success. He lauded the jury, his supervisors, colleagues, family members and all those who contributed to his Ph.D. journey.
He said as a financial expert, his thesis will greatly contribute to boost the performance of commercial banks in the CEMAC zone through financial integration and financial technology.

Profile
Dr. Akale was born to the family of Late Akale Manfred Sone and Ahone Bridget Sone some 45 year ago in Muaku-Nninong, Bangem Sub Division. Growing from a very humble background, Akale learned the culture of humility, love, and the care for humanity.

Academic Life
Dr. Akale did his primary education at Government Practicing School, GPS Muaku, secondary education at Government Bilingual High School, GBHS Bangem, and high school at the Cameroon College of Arts and Sciences, CCAS Kumba.
With the passion for management science, Akale after his GCE A/L, enrolled to Government High School, GHS Nyassoso to study Economics to permit him gain admission into the Accountancy Department of the University of Buea.

He later gained admission into the University of Buea, Department of Accountancy from 2002 to 2005.
The quest for knowledge pushed Dr. Akale enroll into a Master’s Degree program from 2008 to 2010 where he was amongst the first post graduate batch of the Department of Economics and Management Sciences, University of Buea, reading Banking and Finance.
In 2020, the Sub Treasurer enrolled into a Ph.D. program in Banking and Finance which he successfully defended with an ‘A’ grade on the 27th of September 2025.
Professional Life
Dr. Akale’s professional life started about 20 years ago, as a young graduate fresh from the University, where he picked up a voluntary service job in a human rights NGO office (Global Conscience Initiative) as Accounts Clerk and Projects Officer.
Four months into this voluntary service job, Akale got recruited as an Internal Auditor with the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon PCC from December 2025 to 2009.
From 2009 to 2010, he worked as an accountant with Afriland First Bank Yaounde head office.
From 2010 to 2011, Dr. Akale was recruited as an Accounts Supervisor at ELTA-HRG in Douala.
Also, from 2011 to 2013, he joined the multinational oil and gas company Swire Pacific Offshore, West Africa office in Douala as Accounts payable Team Head.
In 2013, Dr. Akale joined the public service in the Ministry of Finance, Department of Treasury and Monetary Cooperation.
His first posting was at the Treasury General of Douala as a support staff.
In 2016 Dr. Akale was appointed Chief of Bureau in charge of personnel and capital expenditure at the Buea Regional Treasury.
From 2018 to 2019 he worked as Sub Treasurer for Akwaya, and from 2019 to 2023, he was appointed sub treasurer for Idenau, Fako Division.
In 2023, he was appointed Sub Treasurer for Tombel, position which he currently occupies.
Social Life
Dr. Akale is the President of the Idenau Council Tenders Board, Member of the Tombel Council Tenders Board, Executive Board Member of Prime Trust Finance, South West treasury staff delegate, member of Nninong Development Association, member of Brothers Keepers philanthropic association, and member of Bangem Development Organization.
Political Life
Dr. Akale’s political journey started in 2004 at the University of Buea, when he was elected President of the University of Buea Accounting Student Association UBAA. This exposure gained him the platform to fully engage into political party structures, hence he settled with the CPDM party in Buea, where he was elected Ndongo Branch President in 2004, campaigning for his political mentor then, the Mayor of Buea Council, Senator Mbella Moki Charles.
In 2011 following the re-organization of party’s organs, Dr. Akale returned to his home constituency and was appointed auditor of Nninong Three Sub Section executive.
The 2016 party re-organization maintained him in same capacity in the sub section executive.
In the 2021 re-organization, he was elected CPDM Sub Section President for Nninong Three, and coordinator of all Nninong Sub Section presidents.
Charge de Mission
Dr. Akale was appointed Charge de Mission by the CPDM Central Committee for the Bangem communal team as follows;
In 2020, he was the Charge de Mission for the Municipal and Legislative elections, 2021 Charge de Mission for the re organization of basic party organs, 2025, Charge de Mission for the October 12 Presidential Election, and head of the Nninong clan presidential election campaign team.
