Bakossi Community in the United Kingdom, UK, has donated a three phase 30 kilowatt diesel generator to Bangem District Hospital, Kupe Muanenguba Division.

The generator was officially handed to the hospital on June 30, 2025, by a representative of the donors, Enongene Sone Stanley.

Speaking at the symbolic handing over ceremony, Sone disclosed that the gift to the hospital came as a result of the epileptic nature of electricity in Bangem, which affects the hospital services and patients in particular.

“It is for this reason that our brothers, sisters, fathers and mothers in the UK have answered our cry.” He stated.
Sone added that the generator is capable of lighting the entire hospital and the mortuary. He announced that in the days ahead, he will bring technicians to properly install the generator at the hospital for immediate use.

While receiving the generator, the Director of Bangem District Hospital, Dr. Esambe Emmanuel appreciated the Bakossi Community in the UK for investing back home.

He said because electricity supply is Bangem is often not constant, in situations where a patient’s life depends on an instrument which requires electricity, during blackout, they are forced to transfer such cases to Nkongsamba, Moungo Division, Littoral Region.
“Just imagine that a baby is born prematurely and requires an incubator to survive. Without electricity, we are forced to transfer such cases. This generator is coming as a relief to improve the quality of care offered to the population. I say thank you to the donors.” He added.

Mayor Ekungwe Kang Christopher of Bangem Council also appreciated the benefactors, disclosing that the capacity of the generator will be able to carry all equipment in the hospital. He prayed for God’s wisdom and blessings on the benefactors to meet more needs in communities.

The Paramount Ruler of Bangem, HRM Chief Nnane Nnoko Emmanuel qualified the giant generator from UK as a gift from heaven.
He said the generator will prolong the life of patients in particular and the population in general because of frequent power outrage in Bangem.

Chief Nnane cautioned the hospital management to handle it with care for posterity. He said proper handling of the generator will cause the benefactors to do more for the hospital in particular and their community in general.
A patient, Mama Senge Magaret Epoge of Street Four appreciated the good heart of their children in the UK for offering them a generator. “We have suffered a lot in the hospital because of the absence of electricity. Even when there’s electricity, some of the wards are in darkness. This is a timely project. God bless the donors.” She disclosed.
