The Chief Designate of Ebamut, Bangem Sub Division, Kupe Muanenguba Division, Esong Julius Etiba, has championed menstrual hygiene awareness drive in the village, donating to the population.

The one-day workshop took place on June 12, 2025 in Ebamut, to mark the World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2025, celebrated every May 28 under the theme, “Together for a Period Friendly World.”

Addressing participants at the workshop on Zoom, the Chief Designate thanked the population for their massive presence at the workshop.
He said the training is taking place few days after the worldwide celebration with the objective to raise awareness, promote good practices, empower the population, break stigma, and improve menstrual health practices.

According to him, knowledge on menstrual hygiene will not only help young girls, but parents as well, to understand their responsibility in helping the girl child live in a period friendly world.

Esong called on participants to be attentive and follow all presentations from facilitators. He said this will help them understand menstrual hygiene and effectively take care of themselves and their children.

He emphasized that menstruation is natural and no longer a shameful thing or a taboo. “Lets break the silence for our young girls and mothers to be free from the taboos attached to menstruation. I am optimistic that this workshop will curb unwanted pregnancies in the village.” He added.

Esong promised to organize more workshops on agriculture, good farm practices, and other related fields to empower his people as God will provide him the means.
He said Ebamut must be great again, describing it as the ‘City of Intelligence.’ “My mission is to empower and educate my people for a better standard of living and to respect one another as a family.” He revealed.
Representing the Chief of Centre, Ebamut Health District, Etone Carine, the Focal Point Community Health Worker, Ebamut, Etape Marcus Kape in the participatory workshop, reflected on how menstruation was handled by mothers in their days, compared to today’s contemporary world.

After listening to experience from elderly women, he talked on the importance of having clean under wears during menstruation, the frequency of changing pads during menstruation, the need to maintain good hygiene during menstruation, among others.

Etape equally schooled participants on the menstrual cycles, which he said is important for the reproductive health, and to curb unwanted pregnancies.
The trainer also took time to illustrate how women and girls should wear their pads, and the importance of reusable pads now available in the market.

The Head Teacher of Government School Ebamut, Ngole Charles Ndille, cautioned parents on strategies to curb unwanted pregnancies for the girl child at home. He promised to intensify the teaching of menstrual hygiene in the school.

The questions and answer session brought more clarity to the over 100 participants at the workshop.
At the end of the training, participants received menstrual pads, tablets of soap, powder soap, and detergents, donated by Esong Julius Etiba, supported by Dr. Mbulle Anne-Marie, a lecturer with Government Teachers Training College, GTTC Bangem, and elite of Ebamut.
Reactions
Speaking to The Ultimate at the end of the workshop, the Spokesman, Ebene Paul Ngalle who represented Esong at the training, thanked the Chief Designate for always thinking about his people at home. He said knowledge gained at the workshop cannot be overemphasized.

While pleading for more empowerment trainings for the village, he prayed God to shower blessings on Esong for reaching out to his people.

Mbange Christina, President of Ebamut Women Meeting also appreciated the organizer for teaching women about menstrual hygiene and the menstrual cycle. “My parents never educated me on menstruation. This is an opportunity for us to reach out to our children and help them with this knowledge.” She added.

Ekane Amalia, representative of Women Empowerment and the Family Ebamut, said she is very happy with knowledge and gifts received at the workshop. She appreciated the Chief Designate for the gifts and told him to relent no effort to enrich his people as he has promised.
