The Community Volunteer in Chief and Promoter of the Summa Cum Laude (Sango Madiba) Information and Learning Resource Centre, SCL-ILRC Ekol Muebah-Nninong, Dr. Ephiarm Abwe Diabe, has awarded scholarship and cash prizes to winners of the essay writing competition in Kupe Muanenguba.

The competition and prize award ceremony took place on February 3 and 4, 2025 at SCL-ILRC Ekol Muebah-Nninong as part of activities to mark the 59th Youth Day celebration in Bangem Sub Division.

In a virtual address at the opening ceremony, Dr. Abwe congratulated the six finalists from Kupe Muanenguba (two from each sub division) for their outstanding performances.

He announced that for being the best in the division, the six contestants will have a scholarship of FCFA 50.000 each, to be received in June 2025 during the celebration of the Day of the African Child.

The Community Volunteer in Chief also disclosed that the Abwe Diabe Platform of Excellence in collaboration with the Divisional Delegation of Secondary Education, the University of Buea and Nya Publishing House Yaounde, will sponsor the publication of the best essay.

Meanwhile he also awarded cash prizes of FCFA 75.000, FCFA 30.000 and FCFA 25.000 to the first, second and third winners respectively. Also, he awarded a Certificate of Distinction to the best winner and Certificate of Achievements to the other five contestants.

It should be noted that prior to the essay writing competition, a young writer’s worksop took place at the Centre in Muebah-Nninong. The workshop was facilitated by Enongene James Njume, former Divisional Delegate of Secondary Education, Kupe Muanenguba.

The Competition
In the highly contested divisional finals, Enongene Gertrude from Government Teacher Training College, GTTC Bangem emerged champion in Kupe Muanenguba.

Ngampte Diana Ngwepteh from Government Bilingual High School, GBHS Tombel came second, while Meteh Mejane Wendy from Cambridge College of Arts and Science, CCAS Tombel took the third position.

Other candidates were Diabe Mejane Nadine from GBHS Bangem, Okai Sonita and Njonji Belaris from Government Secondary School, GSS Manyemen.
The Essay Writing competition started at the level of intra/inter schools in Bangem, Nguti and Tombel Sub Divisions on January 10, 2025 involving all twenty five secondary schools that participated in a three day workshop on “Library Management, Promoting Learning, Reading and Writing Culture in Secondary Schools in Kupe Muanenguba Division” from the 3rd to the 5th of December 2024 at the SCL-ILRC.

While congratulating the winners, the Divisional Delegate of Secondary Education, Kupe Muanenguba, Njikang Peter Mejane said the essay writing competition is aimed at enhancing the quality of learning, reading and writing in schools.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Regent Clan Head of Nninong, Nhon Ekwenongene Alexis on behalf of the Clan Head who doubles as the Chief of Muebah, HRM Chief Nhon Kiong Mbaah Ekwelle Emmanuel Makoge, welcomed the contestants, focal point and stakeholders to Muebah.

The writing competition jointly organized by the Divisional Delegation of Secondary Education, Kupe Muanenguba in collaboration with the University of Buea and the SCL-ILRC, is financed by the Ephraim Abwe Diabe Platform of Excellence (EDA-PFE).
