The population of Bangem Sub Division has appreciated Buea University Medical Students’ Association, BMSA for saving their lives in a week-long health campaign to villages in the sub division.
The health campaign that started on August 11, 2024, took the team to Nkack, Muanyet and Muaku, August 13.
On August 14, the team was at Muabi, Muambong and Bangem Health District. On August 15, the team served the population of Enyandong, Nteho and Nkikoh. On August 16, the team served again the entire population of Bangem and free surgeries were conducted on patients.
Services rendered during their stay in Bangem sub division include; health education and counseling, free consultations on surgical dental and eye related issues, screening on hypertension, cancer, diabetes, STDs, blood grouping, free medication and surgery.

Makoge Adeline Nzele, 68 years said she has been so sick but lacked money to go to the hospital. she was happy that she has been freely consulted and free medications given her. “I thank the medical students so much. Let God bless them and give them more strength to continue to help the down trodden in the society.” Nzele added.
Ekambe Bridget of Street Two Bangem said after the free consultation, free lab tests and free medication by BMSA, she is very excited because all her sickness has disappeared. She thanked BMSA for thinking about the people of Bangem in their campaign.
Closing Ceremony
In the closing ceremony at the Bangem District Hospital, August 16, the Divisional Officer of Bangem Sub Division appreciated the medical students for the sacrifice, efficiency and professionalism in handling patients throughout their stay in the sub division.
He called on parents in Bangem to emulate the example of the medical students by sending their children to school so that they too acquire such professional skills.
In his welcome address, the Mayor of Bangem Council, Ekungwe Kang Christopher said his heart is full of joy seeing the works and impact the medical students have created in his municipality.
He encouraged them to continue such services to save more lives, pleading that Bangem municipality is ready to welcome them again and again.
Also, the Director of Bangem District Hospital, Dr Esambe Emmanuel boasted that Bangem is peaceful and safe even more than Buea.
He said for close to five days with the medical students, they have enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere enabling them to work in a serene environment within the sub division.
Meanwhile, the President of the UB medical student, Guissa Lekungha Sama Britney thanked the administrative, municipal, traditional authorities and elites for supporting them throughout their stay in Bangem Sub Division.
She promised that such hospitality will provoke them to schedule another health campaign to Bangem.
Lekungha who is a Level Five student in the Faculty of Health Science, appreciated all partners and organizations that supported them in the campaign.
