Sons and daughters of Kupe Muanenguba Division, South West Region have celebrated the legacy of Munge Enongene Florence, first Bakossi woman to ever enrolled into the Police Force and the first Policewoman to be posted to Kumba.
The crowd pulling ceremony took place in Nyan village, Elung Clan, Bangem Sub Division, July 27, 2024.
In the thanksgiving memorial service, Rev. Father Charles Bate Bechem of the Ave Maria Parish, Bangem exalted from John 15:12-15. He called on all to draw closer to God and live an exemplary life like the Late Munge.

Speaking to The Ultimate, Mbong Michael Mbine, Deputy General Manager of MAETUR and younger brother to the late police officer said the social, professional and Christian life of his sister will remain remarkable and indelible in his heart.
Mbong who is the Charge de Mission of the CPDM Central Committee to Kupe Muanenguba, described his sister as a role model, pacesetter and disciplinarian, whose love for family was unquestionable.
The Mayor of Bangem Council, Ekungwe Kang Christopher said he is proud to have hailed from the same village that birthed the first Bakossi woman in the police force. “I lived with her during my secondary school days in Kumba. She was a caring and loving mother who lived with everyone without discrimination”. He added.
HRM Chief Nkoke Joseph of Nyan village said late Munge contributed immensely to the development of the village. He said as first female police officer, she was an inspiration to all Nyan children.
Also, Chief Colonel Ngwese Michael of Mbat village, retired pilot of the Cameroon Air Force saluted Late Munge for her courage in achieving career goals at a time when very few women could think of education.
Biography
Late Munge was born on the 5th of October 1957 at Nyan-Elung village, Bangem Sub-Division. She live happily with her parents and siblings and later left the village for Kumba to attend school.
She obtained her First School Leaving Certificate in June, 1968 at St. John Catholic School Kumba. She continued her Secondary School education at Frank Harcourt College, Kumba and took the GCE exam.
She later left Kumba and relocated in Douala where in 1976, she enrolled for the competitive examination into the Police Corp and was successful.
She then joined the Police Training College (C.I.A.P.) Mutengene and later graduated as Gardien de la Paix (GPX) in 1977 and started her official career at the Police Institute in Yaounde.She was later reassigned to the Delegation of National Security in Douala in May 1978 until her transfer to the Commissariat Speciale de Kumba on August 29, 1980 still under the same rank.
In 1984, she gained admission into the Ecole Normale Superieur (ENS) de la Police in Yaoundé for the Police Inspector course. Upon graduation, she was reassigned back to the Commissariat Speciale de Kumba on August 29, 1986 as Police Inspector of First Grade (IP1).
She carried out her job within the Kumba municipality with utmost diligence and professionalism which culminated to the award of a medal (Medal of Public Order) on 20th May, 1992. She was later transferred to the Police Training College (C.I.A.P.) Mutengene on December 12, 2000 as Instructor and promoted to the rank of Police Inspector of Second Grade (IP2).
A position she would hold until 2006, when she was admitted into the Ecole Normale Surperieur (ENS) de la Police for the Police Officer course.She graduated as Officier de Police Première Grade (OP1) in 2007 and was posted to the Commissariat Speciale de Kumba. In 2011, she was promoted to Officier de Police Deuxième Grade (OP2) and held that rank until her retirement from active service on October 5, 2012.
Munge Enongene Florence died on July 3, 2019 after a long illness, leaving behind three sons, two grandsons, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and friends to mourn her.
Present at the ceremony was the Senior Divisional Officer of Kupe Muanenguba, Mungambo Ekema William, the Divisional Officer of Bangem Sub Division. Dairou Saly, the Mayor of Bangem Council, Ekungwe Kang Christopher and other dignitaries.
