The South West Regional Assembly through its rural electrification project has electrified Ekangte, Muabi, Muasum, Muelong and Poala villages of the Nyia Clan, Bangem Sub Division, Kupe Muanenguba Division, South West Region.
The provisional reception of the project took place on July 9, 2024 by a delegation of the Regional Assembly headed by Hon. Gobina Mokoko Simon, Commissioner for Economic Development, Hon. Etape Nnane Judith, Hon. Nsame Mesape Samuel and Hon. Chief Atabe Emmanuel.
Speaking at the reception ceremony at Muabi Market Square, Hon Mokoko said the Rural Electrification project worth FCFA 130 million to the villages is their own way of fostering community development.
He was excited to see that the project has been successfully executed with electricity installed in every home.
The Commissioner pleaded with the population to avoid illegal connections and to call on the contractor for any emergency. He assured that after one year, the project shall be handed to ENEO for continuous management.
The President of the Local Management Committee of the Electrification Project, Ngwesse Moses Kambang on behalf of the villages, thanked the President of the South West Regional Assembly for transforming them from centuries of darkness to light.
Ngwesse recalled how they used to trek daily for several kilometers from their villages to Bangem just to charge their phones. He said development will advance in these villages because they will be connected to the rest of the world through their television and radio sets.
He also thanked Ewane Clifford Ngabe and Kang Primus Metuge alias Espoir Kango for their initiative and constant follow up for the realization of the project.
Speaking to The Ultimate, the Divisional Delegate of Water and Energy, MINEE, Kupe Muanenguba, Jacob Akume Ewang, Control Engineer of the project said they encountered several difficulties during installation.
He said transportation of materials with the bad nature of the roads and sloppy landscape of the villages was not easy. However, he was happy that they succeeded at the end.
Engineer Emmanuel Che Tangie in charge of light construction under Chariot Company that executed the project, called on the population to collaborate with him for the sustainability of the project. He said after the provisional reception, his role is to amend all the shortcomings proposed by the Regional Assembly, and to ensure every home is connected through community efforts.
Population Jubilates
Ekundah Joseph, retired Customs Officer in Muelong, said there’s great excitement in their villages. He said they are all rushing to buy radio and television sets because life has returned to their villages.
Metuge Grace Epede of Muasum appreciated the Regional Assembly for wiping their age long tears of electricity. She said this will boost their businesses, advance community life and development.
Ngwe Kang Blanche of Muabi showered God’s blessings on the Regional Assembly for facilitating live in their villages. “I can cook now without stress by using blenders and other machines. Let my pepper stone too rest. We can now buy android phones, iron our dresses, watch television and listen to the radio”. She added.
