Ex-students of Government Bilingual High School, GBHS Bangem, 2010 batch (GBEXSA-10) have digitalized the school by transforming the school bell from manual to electronic.
The installation of the electronic bell which coincided with career orientation by GBEXSA-10, took place on April 26, 2024 at the school campus.
Speaking at the installation ceremony, the president of GBEXSA-10, Dr Etube Ezekiel Etube said considering the numerous challenges faced by their alma mater, they were moved to contribute to the modernization of the school.
He said by donating the digital bell to the school, it is their own way to reduce daily manual labour by students ringing the bell with a rod. He said the stress used by students to ring the bell could be implored in reading for greater success in class and national exams.
According to Dr. Etube, with the digital bell, the time keeper just presses the switch of the bell and it rings, unlike the manual bell that entails physical exercise.
He disclosed that besides installing the digital bell, they also offered career orientation to students at all levels.
“During our time at GBHS Bangem, so many ex-students visited us and orientated us on our career. This orientation groomed me to who I am today. It is therefore our duty to also orientate students of the school so that we continue in the chain of success.” He added.
The president and his team then moved from class to class and counsel the students on their career path. They promised more development projects for the school.
At the end of their visit, Dr. Etube also thanked the administration for opening their doors to GBEXSA-10.
In his words of appreciation, the Principal, Mesumbe Bernard Akume expressed gratitude to the ex-students for giving back to their alma mater.
He said for them to have an electronic bell is a great development as it will help the students to be very conscious of their time.
Mesumbe seized the opportunity to call on ex-students of other batches of the school to emulate GBEXSA-10 and help improve the school and the lives of the students.
