Members of Bangem Sub Divisional Chiefs Conference have outlined the path to development of their various clans.
This was the outcome of their first general assembly that took place at Bangem Council Hall, April 19, after the election of the new executive on February 22, 2024.
Led by HRH Chief Mesape Clevis Metuge, newly elected President of the Chiefs’ Conference, the traditional rulers strategized on the revamping of their clans by holding regular clan meetings to ease communication.
They also resolved to acquire a large piece of land to build a museum in Bangem for the entire sub division. Besides, the chiefs resolved to harness their culture in a cultural festival to be organized in Bangem.
Speaking to The Ultimate, Chief Mesape admonished the Chiefs to work in collaboration for the achievement of their great vision. “One hand does not tie a bundle. When we speak with one voice, we move forward and build the sub division together.” He added.
Handing Over
The general assembly also had as primary objective to officially hand over power to the new executive members.
The outgoing president of Bangem Sub Divisional Chiefs Conference, HRH Chief Nkwelle II Peter Atabe officially handed over to the new president, HRH Chief Mesape Clevis Metuge.
In their working session, the traditional rulers went through their constitution and adjusted some clauses that needed amendment.
DO’s Intervention
Speaking during the meeting, the Divisional Officer of Bangem Sub Division, Dairou Saly congratulated the new executive members.
He acknowledged the common challenges within the various chiefdom in the sub division like succession disputes, the non-registration and recognition of some chiefs, amongst others.
The DO called on all the chiefs to collaborate with him for lasting solutions towards succession disputes.
He also requested that a list of all unregistered chiefs within the subdivision be sent to him for follow up and registration of the concerned chiefs.
Cooperation with Bangem Council
In her words of appreciation, the second Deputy Mayor of Bangem Council, Mesode Evelyn Ekane expressed joy at the cooperation that exists between the chiefs and Bangem Council.
She seized the opportunity to plead with the chiefs to intensify proper hygiene and sanitation within their villages and along major roads.
