The Divisional Officer, DO of Tombel Sub Division, Nyam Leonard Njowon has congratulated some outstanding women in the sub division for investing in the growth of the girl child and less privileged women.
The DO was speaking on March 8, 2024 during the celebration of the International Women’s Day in Tombel under the theme, “Invest in Women, Accelerating Progress.”
He mentioned the WCPDM Section President for Kupe Muanenguba III, Dr. Ngome nee Felicia Munge Etape, who has invested in the education of women and the girl child in Tombel. He also mentioned the Principal of GSS Ndom, Tombel and other great women who have invested tirelessly to empower women. “This charismatic example must be emulated.” He added.
The DO also exalted women for their great sense of responsibility and assured them of government’s commitment to ensure gender balance. He encouraged the women of Tombel not to relent in their efforts because the development of the society is a collective endeavor.
Nyam continued that women should mitigate the effects of climate change which has a disastrous impact on food production and health. He said few years ago, the CDC rubber plantation was almost burnt down because of reckless behaviour. He said women must be environmentally friendly in their deeds and actions.
The Sub Delegate of Women Empowerment and the Family, MINPROFF, Tombel Sub Division, Kupe Muanenguba Division, Ajebe Vivian, in her speech, encouraged women to be self-reliant and proactive in empowering themselves.
She congratulated women of Tombel Sub Division for fully participating in all activities towards the celebration, which began on the 26th of February to the 8th of March 2024.
“We had seminars and workshops where women were educated on this year’s theme. We also had several competitions and it has been an exciting celebration in Tombel.” She added.
While commending Tombel women for sacrificing daily for their families and the society at large, Ajebe appealed to the government to create an enabling environment by providing equal opportunities for both men and women. She also condemned violence against women and the girl child.
In the football finals, women of Ndabekom- Peng emerged flag bearers in this year’s female football tournament after defeating Unity Sisters.
Other activities that culminated the day include; choral singing, traditional dances, march past and exhibition.
