The Sub Divisional Delegate of Women Empowerment and the Family, MINPROFF Bangem Sub Division, Epumangando Synthia Epede Bih has launched a 16 day Activism against Women and Girls in Bangem Sub Division.
The launching ceremony took place on the 30th of November 2023 in Bangem.
Accompanied by the Divisional Delegate of MINPROFF Kupe Muanenguba, Ngwene Cecilia Mbole, the women marched round the streets of Bangem with a banner on the theme of this year’s celebration, “Investing to Prevent Violence against Women and Girls.”
The women in their songs and messages condemned violence against women and girls especially rape, drug abuse, killings, discrimination and maltreatment of children, breast ironing, female genital mutilation, and to denounce all cases of violence by reporting to competent authorities.
Speaking to The Ultimate, the Divisional Delegate disclosed that the 16 days Activism against women and girls is to raise general awareness on the violence that is perpetrated against women in the world at large and Bangem Sub Division in particular. She said it is high time the population understands the vulnerability of a woman and shun all forms of violence against her.
Meanwhile the Sub Delegate, Epumangando was bitter with cases of rape repeatedly taking place in the Sub Division. She pointed the case of a four months pregnant lady that was raped on the 25th of November 2023 in Bangem.
The Sub Delegate regretted that in the midst of this, family members of the victim refused to report to authorities for necessary action.
“This is what we are condemning. How can we hide such a situation in our community? The more we hide it, the more this evil practice shall continue. Rape is punishable by the law and we shall follow up to ensure that the perpetrator of this act is arrested and sanctioned according to the law.” She revealed.
Epumangando added that the 16 days activism will run from the 25th of November to the 10th of December 2023. She said within these days, they will carry out sensitization in schools and markets within the Sub Division. She said they shall have radio and television sensitization programs against violence and all activities shall culminate with a stakeholder’s conference at the Sub Divisional Delegation.
Ngwabi Mirabel, a youth in Bangem said she was so happy with the launching of the 16 days activism in Bangem. She said the messages were not only educational but an eye opener to the entire population to shun all forms of violence against women who are mostly at the suffering end. She promised to educate more youths in Bangem to shun evil and live peacefully for Cameroon to be a better place.
