Kingmakers of Manyemen Village, Nguti Sub Division, South West Region, have designated Williams Bisong as the new 3rd Class Chief of Manyemen. He replaces Late Chief Eben Jacob Nkongho who died sometime in August 2022.
The Chief was chosen in a follow-up consultative meeting organized by the Senior Divisional Officer of Kupe Muanenguba, Mungambo Ekema William at the divisional office in Bangem on the 22nd of November 2023.
Prior to the designation exercise, on the 9th of November 2023, the SDO organized consultative talks in Manyemen where the old traditional council was dissolve and a new council created. Mungambo also revised kingmakers and notables from the four families of Manyemen, Ntimbuk Family, Njet Family, Ndong family and Bafeme Family.
Addressing kingmakers and notables in Bangem, the SDO revealed that choosing a third class chief for Manyemen is the prerogative of the Divisional Officer of Nguti Sub Division. He said he has received many petitions from elites against the DO, reason he decided to intervene in the Chieftaincy matter. “I feel pity for those who are crying in Manyemen every day. I have a catalog of petitions. The DO has refused to return, the traditional council is selling village land. The council is conniving with bad boys to kidnap people. Elites are afraid to go to the village because of this. Do you want me to sit quite with all these?” He questioned.
Mungambo cautioned that the society needs men of integrity and honest people to bring sanity and peace to Manyemen village. He said every tradition has its laws and the custom and tradition of the Upper Balong people must be respected before choosing a chief for Manyemen.
The SDO then read out the names of the kingmakers from the four families and asked them to nominate their chief.
The three candidates nominated include; Barrister Eben Smith Nkongho, son of the deceased chief, Linusing Orock Tabi and Williams Bisong all from the Njet Family.
The SDO then sent them out to discuss and present a chief for Manyemen.
When the notables entered the hall, Bateh Francis from the Bafeme Family the eldest kingmaker revealed that they have discussed and have chosen Williams Bisong as their new chief.
The meeting ended as kingmakers and family members of Bisong burst out in euphora, shouting and celebrating the choice of Bisong as their new Chief.
Speaking to The Ultimate, Bisong Gilbert Tanyi, Brother of the designated Chief said he was happy that the kingmakers though from different families, decided to give their votes to Bisong based on what they have been doing,
He said their immediate plan of action is to help subsidies wages of PTA teachers in the Manyemen Community School, improve the quality of water supply in Manyemen by rehabilitating the water supply and to build a village community hall.
He said the new chief will ensure that peace and security returns to Manyemen, and for the village to be lively again. Tanyi added that they have a piggery project for Manyemen in the pipeline to employ more than 200 youths in Manyemen according to the Head of State’s wish for Cameroon to become an emergent nation in 2035. He promised to work with the entire population of Manyemen and the traditional council.
