Women of Nguti, Kupe Muanenguba Division, South West Region, grouped under the banner, ‘Banne nduase Dance Group,’ have developed strategies on reviving their culture, irrespective of the difficult times caused by the crisis.
Speaking to The Ultimate in Nguti, October 14, the President of the group, Peaching Catherine said their main focus is to rally women of the town to revive their culture. She said their dance group also talk development during their weekly meetings.
According to her, women play a pivotal role in advancing development. She said they are not only crying for sons of the sub division to lay down their guns for peace to return, they also sensitize women and the entire population on the importance of peace.
Peaching further disclosed that on meeting days, they practice their various traditional dances and ensure that women groomed their children to speak the dialect effectively. The president said they also educate themselves on cooking their traditional meals and other Cameroon dishes for Nguti women to be dynamic in the society.
She said as part of activities to empower themselves for sustainable development, ‘banne nduase dance group’ has a weekly saving scheme from FCFA 500. She said this money enable women to sponsor their children and take care of other family exigencies.
The president called on all the women in Nguti to join their group so that they can always discuss their challenges and sort for solutions collectively. She educated that their gathering is a social capital that can always be transformed to financial capital. She insisted that this has been their driving force in the midst of the socio political crisis in their area.
Peaching said as consequences of the crisis, women have limited capital to carry on their businesses. She said they can’t go to their farms and the continuous killings are a call for concern. She pleaded with stakeholders to struggle for the end of the crisis because peace primordial to development.
