The Minister, Deputy Secretary General at the Presidency of the Republic, Elung Paul Che has donated farm inputs worth FCFA 10 million to farmers’ groups of Nguti Sub Division.
Minister Elung handed the inputs to fourteen farmers’ groups at the Nguti Municipal Grandstand on the 14th of October 2023 on the occasion of his peace crusade visit to the Sub Division.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister, the Deputy Director General of SODECAO, Enang James Enang said the donation to farmers is meant to boost production of food and cash crops in Nguti Sub Division for poverty alleviation.
He called on the beneficiary groups to use the inputs in their farms and not the sell in the market. Enang pleaded with groups which did not receive inputs not to worry, promising that during the next round of donations, their groups shall feature on the list.
Some of the items donated to the farmers include trucks, wheelbarrows, spraying cans, atomizers, engine saws, bags of fertilizer, fungicide, farm helmets, pruning knives, diggers, amongst others.
Speaking to The Ultimate, Mary Ayompe, President of Nguti Women’s Cooperative said they are extremely happy with the farm inputs from the minister. She said their group benefitted sprayers, a wheelbarrow, bags of fertilizer, cutlasses and diggers.
The presidents said the gift is so timely because it will boost productivity individually and collectively. She said farmers in Nguti have been affected seriously by the socio political crisis with little or no means to buy inputs.
While pouring blessings on Minister Elung, Ayompe promised that Nguti women will make him proud with an increase in the production of cassava and vegetable.
Also, the President of Babubock Young Farmers Common Initiative Group, CIG, Ewang Philip, said as cocoa farmers, the inputs shall boost the production of cocoa in Babubock. He said they are grateful that the minister can reach out to poor farmers at the grassroots.
However, Ewang regretted that their major problem is to transport cocoa from Babubock to the market. He prayed the tarring of Bangem – Nguti road should be speedy to save them from the dilemma.
