The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Gabriel Mbairobe made declaration at the fourth session of the steering and orientation committee for the implementation of the policy for the granting of agricultural subsidies in Cameroon held this Monday April 17, 2023.
He reiterated that over 5 billion CFAF will be injected in the cocoa sector and about 1.3 billion CFAF in the coffee sector.
The investment will be channelled to support and develop the skills of coffee and cocoa farmers in order to boost the production of the cash crops in the country.
The government of Cameroon is equally working on adapting agricultural systems to climate change which is particularly challenging for perennial crops that ta8ke long before farmers fully benefit from their management decisions.
Since the launch of the project, some twenty eight thousand cocoa and coffee farmers have received subsidies.
Farmers benefit farm inputs such as fertilizer, pesticides and farm equipment.
The pilot phase of the project was launched in the Moungo Division, of the Littoral Region and the project is gearing towards expansion to the eight cocoa and coffee producing regions of Cameroon.
Amongst other things discussed at the session was the status of implementation of the recommendations of the third session of the Committee, proposal for the allocation of 2023 budgetary resources for cocoa and coffee subsidies under the Producer Window.
The fourth session of the steering and orientation committee for the implementation of the policy for the granting of agricultural subsidies for the cocoa and coffee sectors is expected to bring in a new enthusiasm amongst the different actors.
