Some maintenance agents at the University of Buea, responsible for ensuring the cleanliness of the university environment, denounce the poor salaries paid to them for years.
They recently came publicly after trying on several occasions to get the authorities to look at their situation, but to no avail.
“Most workers are paid 20,000 francs per month for the services they provide to the institution,” one of them told our colleagues at Mimi Mefo Info. According to them, “the thing they pay us is too weak”.
“We have been working here for more than 15 years and our salary is too low. Imagine, we are paid 20,000frs per month, how can we take care of our families, send our children to school, and cover our transportation costs? ”
Another dissatisfied worker said: “They started paying me 15,000 FCFA and then increased this amount to 21,000 FCFA until today”.
These dissatisfied maintenance agents said that their complaints had never been taken into account by the authorities. “We asked the government to increase our salaries, but all we get are promises that have never been kept.”
