“In two weeks, the South West Regional Assembly will organize a “South West Peace and Development Forum” aimed at bringing together representatives of various strata of society to consolidate the peace brought about by the efforts of the security/defense forces and patriotic Cameroonians of the South West extraction”.
This grand announcement was made by the President of the South West Regional Assembly, Mr Bakoma Zacheus, during the convening of the Members of the South West Regional Assembly constituting the Regional councilors and Local administrative authorities on the occasion of the 2023 Second Ordinary Session to examine the 2022 administrative, management and stores accounts.
This session takes place from Wednesday 26th April to Thursday 27th April at the Buea Mountain Hotel Conference Hall.
The Governor of the South West Region, Bernard Okalia Bilai, present at the session, drew attention to the fact that the reason behind the special status of the Regional Assembly was to address the worries of the local community according to their customs and traditions.
“ The said document will therefore have to be examined with all seriousness and objectivity taking into account that its implementation will build the opportunity not only to significantly improve on the standard of living of our population within the next 5 years but also, demonstrate before all, the commitment of the leading forces of the region to showcase its manpower and Socio-economic potentials”
The smart looking Governor, stated that the “special audit” must present a transparency of accounts within the last 12 months laying emphasis on the fact that, the evaluation exercise wasn’t a medium to target some individuals.
“ … It must be conducted in a constructive approach so that at the end of the session, your institutions come out with strong recommendations and good proposals that will go a long way to enhance the quality of services offered and also, to serve as a modern reference for the implementation of the Regional Development Plan”.
In the opening draft presentation of administrative accounts by the President of the South West Regional Assembly, he reported that they experienced a deficit of revenue over expenditure of fifty five million four hundred and fifty two thousand, six hundred and nine (55,452,609) CFA Francs with a project realization rate of 78.5%.
Further addressing members of the session, Mr Bakoma Zakeus , assured that the South West Regional Assembly will undertake repairs of the roof of the classroom block of GHS Bokwango which was damaged by the tornado of Wednesday 19th April, 2023.
In addition, Mr Bakoma further reassured the SWRA’s commitment to continuously carter for the welfare of the school-going population by constructing classrooms and “VIP” latrine blocks as well as equipping constructed classrooms with benches across the region in a bid to redress the imbalance in infrastructural/equipment needs in the secondary school milieu within the South West Region.
In conclusive statements, the Governor of the South West Region called on all regional councilors to work with defense and security forces to ensure the security of the population amidst the use of new destructive devices used by some Cameroonians manipulated to take up arms against their own fatherland.
Critics have frowned at the structure for being out of touch with the people and failing to prioritize the South West population. They say they have failed this far to have any real impact on the ground and its impact has not been felt.
