The Senior Divisional Officer of Kupe Muanenguba Division, Mungambo Ekema William has warned that government has started building new prisons for politicians, contractors and mayors.
Mungambo made the declaration on the 19th of October 2023 at the divisional office Bangem during the follow up meeting of the execution of Public Investment Projects for Kupe Muanenguba.
The SDO was particular with a project for the supply of pipes for Tombel water scheme which was at zero percent. He wondered why by October, pipes would not be supplied. The Divisional Delegate of Water and Energy, MINEE, Kupe Muanenguba, Jacob Akume Ewang said it is certain that the contractor does not know what to buy or is ignorant. Meanwhile the Divisional Delegate of planning, Programming and Regional Development, MINEPAT, Ntoi Eugene said the contractor confided to him that the pipes are not available in the market.
Mungambo became furious and accused mayors of awarding contracts to incompetent contractors. “I have told you to forget about ‘man know man’ syndrome in the award of contracts. Award contracts to competent people. It will fall back on you mayors. Government has started building prisons. Politicians, contractors and mayors shall fill these prisons.” He warned.
The SDO was also bitter with project No 4 of Nguti Council, “Acquisition of a hearse for Nguti Mortuary” at FCFA 22 million in 2022. He said the council revealed that the hearse has been supplied at 100%, but upon investigation, it was discovered that the hearse was not supplied. He said this alone can land someone in prison.
He said it is more amazing that the Mayor of Nguti Council, Tong George Enoh is a member of the national follow up committee for public investment projects in Cameroon.
The SDO told them to be careful in handling state funds. He lamented that the year will end without some contracts being executed because of unscrupulous contractors.
He told the Divisional Finance Controller for Kupe Muanenguba, Mukete John Nangeli to ensure that no credit for 2023 is blocked. The SDO said individuals cannot be making gains against the common good of the people.
Mungambo instructed MINEPAT delegate to invite all contractors executing contracts in the division to the next meeting to explain why they continue to drag Kupe Muanenguba behind in the execution of contracts.
