The result of the awareness campaign conducted in the Ndian Division in the Southwest region, several times affected by secessionist attacks have recorded 32 fighters surrendered in a month.
No more war and its atrocities; violence and its disastrous consequences. Farewell to the bloodbath and the secession struggle! It was probably for understanding that a group of young people who had rallied the secessionist movements in the Southwest region, more precisely in the Ndian division, decided to lay down their arms on Saturday, June 10, 2023.
Responding to the call made for a while by the President of the Republic, but especially to the all-out awareness led by the elites of this division, these now veterans once at the origin of the fear caused by the growing crime of separatist groups that terrorised the populations, choose the voice of repentance. A courageous decision welcomed by the elites of this locality, turned into pilgrims of peace.
Their surrender comes just three weeks after two formidable self-proclaimed “generals” of the secessionist struggle and 16 of their fighters also went to the same path. In total, in just one month, 32 secessionist fighters who were sowing terror in the Ndian department, Southwest region, surrendered and were received by the Defence and security forces in Mundemba. Enough to hope for a return of peace in the regions affected by the crisis that has been raging in the Northwest and Southwest regions for six years.
Paul Biya, crusader of peace
“We had a hard time getting out 12 people. That’s a total of about 32 people in a month, “said Sake Esono Louis Besinga, the first deputy mayor of the municipality of Mundemba. He added that eight of the 12 fighters were those who had terrorised the population around Apkasang, while four others had set up camp in the village of Erat. They will be taken to the Buea Disarmament, Demobilization and Rearmament Centre.
Arrived late in the evening, these new repentant still had to undergo a registration procedure through the Prefect of Ndian.
“They arrived late, but I’m sure that before Wednesday, they will be taken to Buea. Some people encourage them to leave the centers and return to their different areas and do their activities… so, I told them that to succeed, they should stay there and follow the procedure at the Centre, “explained Sake who took the opportunity to urge all those who are still in the bushes to “come and join us to meet the initiative of President Biya, the peace crusader.
The man also reaches out to the elite of the Ndian division wishing to join the initiative to convince those in the bushes to rejoin his team and not to embark on other movements that could rather frighten them. For the record, on May 16, two formidable self-proclaimed “Ambazonian generals” and 16 of their fighters laid down their arms in Mundemba.
