The President of the Republic of Chad, General MAHAMAT IDRISS DEBY ITNO received yesterday, April 26th, afternoon in audience the Minister of State, Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic of Cameroun, Mr. FERDINAND NGOH NGOH. He delivered a message from President PAUL BIYA to the Head of State of Chad.
This visit comes at a time when the two “brotherly countries” are facing what is considered a diplomatic crisis. A few days ago, Chad recalled its ambassador to Cameroon for consultation following the “the alleged acquisition of the assets of the former Esso by the Savannah Energy Nebula. ”
In a statement from the Presidency of Chad, N’Djamena said he informed Cameroon of “unfriendly actions contrary to Chad’s interests by its representatives on the boards of directors of Cotco and Totco. In the same document, the Secretary General of the Presidency of Chad, Gali Ngothe Gata, accuses the Cameroonian authorities of not following up on several letters.
What shocks Chad in this case, reports from some sources within the government says, is “the signing of an agreement providing for the sale by a subsidiary of Savannah Energy PLC of 10% of the share capital of Cameroon Oil Transportation Company S.A (COTCO)” In contradiction with Cotco’s conventions and statutes to the National Hydrocarbon Company (SNH) of “Chad is once again obliged to defend its interests and respectability and denounces the repeated actions of Cameroon and its representatives that undermine, in this case in CEMAC, relations between the two countries,” laments Chad.
This working visit by the Cameroonian Minister of state, minister, Secretary general at the Presidency Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh, should allow the two countries to exchange on points of contention in order to amend ties
It should be noted that this is the first time that Chad and Cameroon have faced a diplomatic crisis of this magnitude in their long history of friendship
